The fly-ash produced by solid waste incinerators contains heavy metals. Disposing of this incinerator residue in landfills does not eliminate the risk of pollution-in fact, landfill disposal of this waste has been prohibited since 2002.

Recupyl has developed a process that can be used with various fly-ash compositions. Toxic substances are separated and eliminated without causing any pollution, and there is no need for landfill disposal because the process results in a usable material.

Recupyl's process has been successfully tested on a number of ash samples in pilot plants as part of an EU project.
